The compass focus allows a sculpture of the same dimension and also to enlarge or reduce the model.
The compasses will be used to determine the correct points of the model.
If the stone is precisely cut, the points meet at the same point; if they do not meet, more material will have to be removed; if they exceeded, too much material would have been removed.

I am in the presence of the President of the Republic, Mr. Chirac, at the Higher Institute for Research and Training in Stone Trades in Rodez. I took the opportunity to offer him a gargoyle in the local sandstone.
